It would be presumptuous to call this a FAQ - I couldn't claim that people ask me anything particularly frequently. I'm sufficiently opinionated that it rarely gets as far as them actually asking... And I always feel it's a bit arrogant to imply that people will frequently ask questions about some random nerd on the Web. However, this aims to answer a few of the things which messages indicate are likely to be puzzling to some.
On the assumption that clicking this link implies that you are at least mildly curious about me, let me tell you that I am a fortysomething bloke with a wife and two sons, I was born in Welwyn Garden City, first went to school in the shadow of Digswell viaduct (where I saw the Flying Scotsman for the first time) and I am a Christian, a keen cyclist, choral singer and railway modeller. I work in computers and help my friends fix theirs as the occasion demands. I am a school governor, and a member of the Parochial Church Council of my parish. Like Arthur Dent I am an ape descendant slightly under two metres tall. I love classical music, jazz and lots of rock too. I used to help out at a biennial music festival in St Albans, where I grew up and went to school, so I have had the privilege of meeting some of the finest musicians in the world (think Yehudi Menuhin here). I have a BEng in electrical engineering from Southampton University and can barely remember any of it although I keep up my IEE membership. I speak English quite well, French very badly, German hardly at all, and have still managed to get by working in half the countries in the EU. I love Belgium and Flanders in particular.
Why not use Wikipedia?
Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia. It is not a how-to, not a place for opinion, not a place for excessive detail in some places, in others it is a place for excessive detail. Here I can explore a topic the way I want to.
Of course you probably know that I am a Wikipedia sysop, I know what Wikipedia can and can't do.
