Cycle advocacy is mistaken by some as anti-car advocacy; this may be because of the nagging suspicion most of us will have while driving that we are making a selfish choice and one which is not good for us or the planet. There is plenty of evidence that motorists feel a need to portray cyclists as an "out group" and thus exclude themselves from the class, rather than admitting that perhaps they should get out of their cars and cycle more.
